Castries – Wednesday, January 08, 2014 – Sean Matthew, General Manager/CEO for the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) has submitted his resignation to the Chairman and Port Council. The Resignation letter was submitted on November 30^th 2013 and will take effect on March 02, 2014. The Chairman and Port Council in a meeting held today, January 8, 2014 have accepted Mr. Matthew’s resignation.

“I would like to thank the successive Governments and Port Councils for affording me the opportunity for developing my vast expertise through the association with SLASPA. The experience has been a very fulfilling one and as such provided me the base to be successful in my chosen endeavors”, said Matthew. “After 28 years of service, I believe the time has come for a review options available to me as it relates to my professional and personal development. My heartfelt gratitude to all I have interacted with in particular my senior management team and my staff. I hope that the institution remains structurally sound and continues on its path of success” continued Matthew.

Mr. Sean Matthew joined SLASPA in 1987 as the Assistant Engineer in Marine and moved up the ranks to Senior Engineer, then Chief Engineer, to Deputy General Manager (Operations and Development), until he was appointed General Manager /CEO of SLASPA in 2007.

During his tenure as General Manager of SLASPA, Mr. Matthew was able to oversee and achieve many projects including the reconfiguration of cargo shed 6, the modernization of cargo handling operations and cargo management systems at Port Castries and the expansion of the departure lounge at Hewanorra International Airport. In addition, he was instrumental in the automation of many systems and processes at SLASPA which includes the innovative web-based statistical database and the installation of Flights Information Display System at the Airports. In tandem with this was the drive to improve communication with customers, market development, customer service delivery and most importantly employee development and training.

His experience as an Engineer and a business executive led to his appointment as the Chairman of St. Lucia’s National Property Management Company (NIPRO) where he served a successful ten-year term.  He has also served as the Chairman of the St. Lucia Water and Sewage Company, Deputy Chairman of the St. Lucia Tourist Board, Chairman of the Airlift Committee, SLTB, Executive member of the Saint Lucia National Olympic Committee, a Director on the board of the St. Lucia Marine Terminals Ltd and the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA).

In the Port Council meeting held today, the Chairman and Council thanked Mr.  Matthew for his significant contributions and leadership over the past six years and wished him every success in his future endeavors.
