SLASPA’s Accounts and Finance Department: Assessing the Situation

The past few weeks in Portfolio, we have endeavored to share more about the various departments we will continue in the upcoming weeks to feature the rest of the departments and divisions at SLASPA. This week, we feature the Accounts and Finance Department which is headed by Ms. Daniella Martelly, Financial Controller. SLASPA’s Accounts & Finance Department is charged with overseeing efficient financial management of the organisation’s accounts payable and receivable, purchasing, shipping, inventory and invoicing activities. It is also responsible for the staff payroll – amounting to around half of SLASPA’s total monthly outgoing costs.

SLASPA’s focus through the Accounts and Finance Department has been on managing costs, which they have been very successful with thus far. For example, cargo management software has been integrated with accounting software, which means invoices can now be generated automatically. As this was previously a manual process it means SLASPA’s accounting process has become much more streamlined enabling vital human resources to be deployed elsewhere.

Recently, an Airport Invoicing module was developed and is being tested at Hewanorra International Airport. This module will allow for the automation of invoices at the airport and will be interfaced with the ACCPAC Accounting software. There are also plans to develop an interface between the current accounting programs and the software being used at the leisure marinas under SLASPA’s jurisdiction, which will further consolidate the automation process. This increasing application of technology is generating a wealth of data for SLASPA. Extracting and analyzing relevant information will prove very useful to shaping future plans, including overall company strategy.
