We hope that you enjoyed our “Meet our facility Managers”, series of Portfolio where you learnt a little more about the people who manage the various facilities you visit, that are owned by SLASPA. This issue of Portfolio heralds the start of a new series called “Where are they now: SLASPA’s Scholarship Holders.”

As an organization with a mandate not only to facilitate business in St. Lucia, but also to assist in the education of the youth in St. Lucia, SLASPA started a Scholarship Program in 1997, to encourage the youthful progress and education of the children of SLASPA’s employees. SLASPA then proceeded to award four (4) scholarships to the top four (4) performers at the island’s Common Entrance Exam. To retain the scholarship for the five years, the students are required to maintain an overall average of 70%. Whilst at secondary school, they are also required to keep in constant communication with the program coordinator, Ms. Beverly Dulcie, Manager of Employee Development. Ms. Dulcie who spearheads this program and her team provide counseling and guidance to all the students during the program.

Throughout the span of the scholarship program, SLASPA has awarded close to sixty scholarships and many of these scholarship awardees have done the organization proud. In the upcoming issues of Portfolio, you will learn about some of these awardees and where they are now.

This year, SLASPA not only reaffirmed its commitment to four children of employees who are successful at Common Entrance, but also added a fifth secondary school level scholarship. In addition, the Training and Development section, through the Human Resources Department announced that starting this year, two tertiary level scholarships will also be available to students who are successful at the CXC Examinations. These two new scholarships are valid for both Sir Arthur Lewis College campuses in the island.
