SLASPA, OAS and CICTE collaborate for a Basic Security Training Course

Castries – Wednesday February 27, 2008 - The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism (CICTE), have collaborated to provide a Basic Security Training course for key members in the Aviation sector. The training session began on February 25, 2008 and ran until March 4, 2008.

The Basic Security Training for the Aviation Sector Course was designed to enhance Security Screeners and Ports Polices’ ability to detect threat items using x-ray machines, metal detection portals, physical search techniques, and explosive trace detection technologies. The course was scheduled to span a period of seven (7) days and also covered major subjects such as Customer Service and Communications and Dangerous goods detection.

Mr. Peter Jean – Director of Airports at SLASPA indicated that this session was timely given the current environment where airports are challenged to provide the most effective security services. SLASPA is therefore pleased to collaborate with the respective agencies to better equip security officers with the requisite tools to enhance their skills in executing their duties while being sensitive to customer service and effective communication.
