SLASPA …Complementing Your Every Move in 2014

Welcome to the first edition of Portfolio for 2014, like in previous years, we will use this avenue to inform you on what is happening within the organisation and how we continue to complement the lives of many.  SLASPA has been complementing your every move from way back when it was the St. Lucia Ports Authority and the Airports Division of the Ministry of Communications and Works. As you are aware, we handle approximately 600,000 tonnes of cargo, facilitates over 800,000 travellers, safely lands 40,000 aircraft and berths over 1000 vessels per year. So majority of the things Saint Lucians and visitors eat, wear or drive from foreign markets and the inputs or machinery needed for local manufacturers actually comes through one of the ports of entry managed by SLASPA. Similarly, SLASPA plays an integral role in the export of locally produced goods to foreign markets.

With such important roles, we at SLASPA ensure that Saint Lucia’s ports of entry are well managed and have therefore invested heavily in service delivery over the past few years. Such investments include  technology to improve operational efficiencies, procurement of additional cargo handling equipment, upgrading of passenger facilities at the airports and ferry terminal to improve comfort, reconfiguration of the cargo shed to improve speed of delivery, development of a port education campaign to empower customers and the wider pubic with information about Saint Lucia’s ports and most importantly employee development that has been focused on training in a number of areas which includes customer service and on the job training.

Throughout the years, we have had the privilege of sharing quite a bit of information with you about the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) through this medium. From the very basics in terms of who we are and what we do as an organisation to some more intricate details of our Airport and Seaport operations and even shared information with you on our corporate social responsibility, our senior management team and key personnel at SLASPA.   Recognizing the key role that we play in Saint Lucia, through our weekly editions of Portfolio, we will endeavor to keep you informed on the developments at the Ports of Entry in 2014.

We also plan to keep you up to date with our other forms of media including our up to date website www.slaspa.com, our increasingly popular magazine, SLASPA in Focus and the continuation of our innovative features called “Port Pass and Boarding Pass”, which are a series of daily tips that empower port users with useful information about the port and ways their experience will be enhanced while using any of our facilities.
