Saint Lucia in the Top 50 Cruise Ports in the World

Castries – Wednesday, January 30, 2013 – The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) is proud to announce that Saint Lucia’s Port Castries has been ranked number 25 in the world in the Autumn 2012 Cruise Insight The Global Cruise Market Magazine’sWorld’s Top 50 Cruise Ports of Call” for 2011. Port Castries which welcomes an average of 600,000 passengers and over 300 cruise vessels a year is no stranger to receiving such accolades. Recently, Port Castries was awarded with the 2012 Porthole Editor-In-Chief Award for “Best Caribbean Port” from Porthole Cruise Magazine.

“It is indeed an honor to be ranked number 25 in the world’s top 50 cruise ports of call. These accolades are testament to the hard working industry stakeholders and show that our efforts in growing and enhancing the business are not in vain. We are diligently continuing to work with local and international partners to continue to offer the exceptional products and services at Port Castries. Cruise ships have the ability to improve their products quickly by redesigning and redefining experiences and entertainment onboard and new cruise ports are being built e.g. in Jamaica and many other ports are spending money on improving and enhancing their infrastructure to accommodate the growth occurring in the industry. Therefore being ranked so high among international port demonstrates the proficiency of Port Castries and the many industry stakeholders who have invested in their products to enhance the experience of our cruise visitors” said Dona Regis, SLASPA’s Director of Marketing and Product Development.

The top three spots went to Nassau, Cozumel and Civitavecchia, with neighbouring islands Barbados, Antigua and St. Kitts ranking 31, 32 & 33 respectively.
