Meet Peter Jean: SLASPA's Director of Airports

In our last edition of our meet the senior manager series, we introduced you to Mr. Adrian Hilaire. This week we present Mr. Peter Fergusson Jean, Director of Airports. Mr. Jean started his Aviation career in 1972. He was first employed with the Civil Aviation Department of the Ministry of Communications, Works, Transport and Public Utilities in St Lucia, as an Air Traffic Control Officer, following his successful completion of a nine months Air Traffic Control training programme, at the Civil Aviation Training Centre in Trinidad, West Indies. During his years as an Air Traffic Controller, he worked both at the then Vigie, and now George F. L. Charles Airport, and the Hewanorra International Airport. In 1983, Mr. Jean was appointed Senior Air Traffic Controller (SATCO) for St. Lucia, a position which required him to give oversight to the Air Traffic Services at both Hewanorra International and Vigie Airports.

As a result of the amalgamation of the St. Lucia Port Authority and the Civil Aviation Department of the Ministry of Communications, Works and Public Utilities, to form the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority in July1983, Mr. Jean was seconded to the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority, and in 1985 was appointed Airport Duty Officer at the Hewanorra International Airport, a position now renamed Assistant Airport Manager. While in that position, Mr. Jean attended numerous programmes, including Airport Operations Management, Airport Commercial management and Airport Security. Between 1996 and 1998, Mr. Jean attended the OECS Middle Management Programmes held at the University Centre, the Morne, Castries, St. Lucia.

In August 1995, Mr. Jean enrolled at the Embry‐Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida, where he pursued a BSc degree in Aviation Business Administration, and graduated in December 1998. After his graduation at Embry‐Riddle, Mr. Jean returned to his former job at the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority. Following a restructuring of the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority, Mr. Peter F. Jean was appointed to the position of Director of Airports in December, 2001, a position which he still holds. In October, 2010, Mr. Jean completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Passenger Transportation Management with Aston University, United Kingdom.

In his current position, Mr. Jean is involved with the planning, organizing and directing the operations of the two Airports in St. Lucia.

Thank you for reading this week’s Portfolio and in the next edition, we will present our Director of Information Systems, Ms. Grace Michel.
