In our fifth edition of meet SLASPA’s Management Team series we introduce you to a female professional in the Information Technology field with over twenty years’ experience Ms. Grace Michel, Director of Information Systems. Grace Michel joined the Authority in 1984 and worked in the IT Department as a Systems Support Officer providing IT support in the various software applications to all departments. She then served as the Network Administrator where she competently managed SLASPA’s Wide Area Network providing a reliable network infrastructure for the efficient flow of information between SLASPA’s headquarters and its remote locations.

As Director of Information Systems she is responsible for ensuring that all investments in hardware and software are aligned to the business objectives of the Authority and that functional and cost effective IT solutions are deployed throughout the organization. Through her dedication and exceptional inter‐personal skills she has managed to gain the buy‐in from staff to all her department’s initiatives towards automation.

She was instrumental in the implementation of five (5) IT projects over a six (6) month period which saw the successful automation of manual processes and the upgrade of existing processes at both the airports and seaports. One of the major projects was the development of a central statistical database that extracts data on all aircraft and passenger movements, cargo, cruise, yachting and ferry operations all through one web interface, placing SLASPA at the forefront of data collection thereby making information more readily available in real‐time to both internal and external customers.

Mrs. Michel holds an Executive Diploma in Management from the University of the West Indies (UWI) and is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). In 2007 she earned a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Durham University in the United Kingdom.

She is a results oriented individual and believes that no problem is insurmountable and as she puts it “tell me what you need and I will find a solution” is what characterizes her performance as the Director of Information Systems.
