How to Register Your Vessel – Useful Tips from SLASPA

As we herald the start of a busy vacation season, with a number of pleasure boat rides, we would like to provide-some helpful tips on how to register your pleasure craft or commercial vessels in Saint Lucia.

If you are planning to become an owner of a Saint Lucian vessel, your first step is to ensure that you or your company is eligible to do so by meeting one of the following criteria:

  • Saint Lucian Citizen;
  • Persons who under the Immigration Act is deemed to belong to Saint Lucia;
  • Citizens of a CARICOM State residing in a member State of the Caribbean Community, where the ship is customarily engaged in international voyages;
  • Individuals or corporation in bona fide joint venture shipping enterprise relationships with citizens of Saint Lucia, as may be prescribed;
  • Corporations established under and subject to the laws of Saint Lucia and having its principal place of business in Saint Lucia;
  • Such other persons as the Minister may by order made by statutory instrument determine subject to negative resolution of the House of Assembly and the Senate.

The registration of the vessel is either provisional, or permanent. In either case, the application must be completed and submitted on a prescribed form obtained from the Division of Maritime Affairs or SLASPA’s, website www.slaspa.com.

1. Preparing the Application Package

  • The following information MUST be contained in the application package:
  • Completed Form
  • The Declaration of Ownership
    • Bill 0f Sale
    • Customs Documentation
    • Builder's Certificate (where applicable)
  • Proof of Nationality (Copy Of Saint Lucian ID Card/Drivers License/Passport)
  • Deletion Certificate From Previous Registry (Where Applicable)
  • Proof of Insurance
  • Initial Survey ForInitial Survey For Insurance by recognized organizations
  • Photo of Vessel
