Castries Seaport Maintenance Staff set World Record

On Wednesday January 23, 2008, the Maintenance staff at the Castries Seaport achieved a World Record in taking only 7 1/2 hours (inclusive of 1 hour stoppage due to rain) to change the hoisting ropes on the LHM320 crane. The previous record set was over 8 hours.

When asked what he thought about the momentous achievement, Daren Cenac, Senior Engineer at SLASPA, indicated that he was indeed proud to be associated with a great team on this project and the achievement is testimony of the high technical expertise within the engineering department, especially as it was the first time being performed with supervision by a Liebherr Technician.

Helmut Deutsch—Service Manager at Liebherr—stated that he did not know anyone, inclusive of Liebherr engineers worldwide who has done something like this in such a time frame, especially considering that this was the first time for Port Castries—LHM 320 crew he also applauded the maintenance staff of Port Castries for their outstanding work and achievements.

Commenting of this remarkable achievement, Sean Matthew, SLASPA’s GM/CEO said “acknowledgement of local expertise is key to becoming the best Port Authority in the region and as such the dedication and achievement of this team aught to be applauded. The Council, Management and Staff of SLASPA congratulates the entire Maintenance Staff of the Engineering Department.
